Effects of Drainage Water Management in a Corn–Soy Rotation on Soil N2O and CH4 Fluxes

چکیده

Drainage water management (DWM), also known as controlled drainage, is a best practice (BMP) deployed on drainage ditches with demonstrated success at reducing dissolved nitrogen export from agricultural fields. By slowing discharge ditches, subsequent anaerobic soil conditions provide an environment for nitrate to be reduced via denitrification. Despite this success, incomplete denitrification might increase nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions and more methanogenesis, resulting in increased methane (CH4) emissions. These two gases, N2O CH4, are potent greenhouse gases (GHG) depletes stratospheric ozone. This potential pollution swapping of reduction GHG production could negatively impact the desirability BMP. We conducted three years static chamber measurements surface farm plots without DWM corn–soybean rotation Delmarva Peninsula. found that raised table ditch edge, but had no statistically significant effect water-filled pore space field surface. Nor did we find findings encouraging suggest that, least site, can used remove tradeoff

Effect of drainage on CO2, CH4, and N2O fluxes from aquaculture ponds during winter in a subtropical estuary of China.

Aquaculture ponds are dominant features of the landscape in the coastal zone of China. Generally, aquaculture ponds are drained during the non-culture period in winter. However, the effects of such drainage on the production and flux of greenhouse gases (GHGs) from aquaculture ponds are largely unknown. In the present study, field-based research was performed to compare the GHG fluxes between o...

Limits of agricultural greenhouse gas calculators to predict soil N2O and CH4 fluxes in tropical agriculture

Demand for tools to rapidly assess greenhouse gas impacts from policy and technological change in the agricultural sector has catalyzed the development of 'GHG calculators'- simple accounting approaches that use a mix of emission factors and empirical models to calculate GHG emissions with minimal input data. GHG calculators, however, rely on models calibrated from measurements conducted overwh...
